The Wailers are one of Reggae music’s longest serving international ambassadors. The band’s name first emerged as the three-piece unit of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. The three individuals diligently took the music of Jamaica to the rest of the world. They have performed on just about every continent. But, after years together, the members eventually went solo and subsequently Bob Marley and Peter Tosh answered an eternal call from way beyond the skies.
Since the death of Marley, the Wailers band continued to reinvent themselves. The current members include: Aston “Family Man” Barrett – bass; Aston Barrett, Jr. – drums; Junior Marvin – lead guitar & vocals; Donald Kinsey – lead guitar; Owen “Dreadie” Reid – rhythm guitar; Josh David Barrett – lead vocals; Javaughn Bond – keyboards and Shema McGregor – vocals. The revised Wailers embarked on their Legend tour in 2014. That event coincided with the 30th year since the release of the best selling Reggae album of all time, the Legend by Bob Marley and The Wailers.
The following year the band made their historic debut stop in India where they performed to very large and supportive crowds. The Wailers continue to grow from strength to strength. In fact, 2016 was a very active year for them, as they played several gigs across Europe. Band member, Owen ‘Dreadie’ Reid has told StarStatus World that their aim is to spread as much love as they possibly can all over the world. He says they will always seek to fulfil their mission of being loyal and steadfast messengers for Jah. The year 2017 will be another busy one for the legendary Reggae band with repeat stops already scheduled for the UK among other places.
